IN2STEAM Inspiring Next Generation of Girls through Inclusive STE(A)M Learning in Primary Education is a three- year Erasmus+ KA201 project targeting primary school students in order to enhance innovative and gender inclusive educational approaches that integrates STE(A)M learning (applying art and design principles to science education) especially for female students, by reducing the gender gap in scientific career. For that purpose, 18 female STEM professionals will support the Consortium in the implementation of the activities. ![]() The consortium composed by 6 partners from 6 different countries will work on creating tools focusing on innovative methodologies, thus enhancing creativity, critical thinking and interpersonal soft skills, and offering a multidisciplinary and mixed approach combining social sciences and STEMs at school. ![]() Key Actions
On 20th and 21st of November 2019 partners met for the kick-off meeting in Palermo (Italy) to discuss about the future actions and how to develop innovative tools for teachers and educators. On July 2020, partners finished their desk and fieldwork research in the frame of the “IO1 - Report on the Value of STE(A)M in Girls' Education”. The Report on the Value of STE(A)M in Girls' Education is an analysis on the value of STE(A)M education in increasing the participation of young girls in STEMs and the professional development needed by teachers to promote 21st century skills among all pupils. The report will be translated in all the partners languages and will be available on the project’s website for free download.
From the Report, it emerged that gender perspectives continue to play a key role in girls’ access and participation in STEM and how the arts within the STE(A)M learning approach can counteract that and contribute to address such gender bias and stereotyping in teaching practices within STEM disciplines. Furthermore, partners analysed their national educational systems to highlight the gaps in the gender-neutral approaches in primary schools as well as the collection of best practices in combining science and art. This strategy will ensure the effective implementation of the training activities of IN2STEAM and get a stronger impact for the target groups.
To conclude, the 21st of July 2020 took place the 2nd online transnational meeting to discuss about the main findings of the IO1 and monitor the progress on “IO2 - Training Curriculum in STE(A)M learning and gender sensitive practices” which will be structured in 6 specific online training modules for teachers and relative workshops. ![]() Future Actions
Partners are actually working on the development of the “IO2 - Training Curriculum in STE(A)M learning and gender sensitive practices” which will be available in the form of online educational resources (OER) and will be tested by the teachers in classrooms with their students. By the end of the year, partners will plan the “Joint staff training event C1” including some workshops and debates on how to improve the content of the OER training modules and start piloting at school with 8 primary school teachers per country.
